Contribute
If you're interested in contributing to this project, correcting typos, providing translations, etc., please feel free to reach out to me via email at bendingwind@gmail.com. You can also send me an ask on tumblr, but tumblr doesn't have the best history with alerts and I can't promise that I will get it in a timely manner.
Notes
A Russian translation can be found here.
Version 2 of the map can still be viewed here. Note that some borders have changed and some locations have been slightly shifted in version 3.
Distance Grids:
For the grids, each hexagon is 30km across. 30km is the approximate distance a human can travel on foot in a day. 60km is the approximate distance a horse can travel in a day. Speed and daily distance may vary depending on terrain, weather, physical fitness, total length of journey, and other factors.
1 Based on the assumption that Bioware devs' statement that Ferelden is roughly the size of England is correct.
2 Based on the fact that Thedas seems like it should be slightly larger (and not much else tbh).
5 Based on Hawke's statement that it took two weeks to sail from Gwaren to Kirkwall, approximately. Please note that this may take some time to load.
3 Hexes can be used for a lot of nifty things, like estimating population size, estimating travel time, etc. Each hex is 30km across.
Borders: The borders are based on research and the presence of natural landscape features, but they are still made up :) You don't have to turn them on if you don't want to.
If you'd like to see your own calculations included as a distance grid, please contact me via the information in "Contribute" at the top of the page
Custom Zoom:
4 Custom zoom may take several minutes to load. This is a result of it drawing the entire map (particularly rivers) from scratch, as opposed to loading a pre-generated SVG of the basic land features as the default zooms do. Speed will vary based on your computer, as the image is generated client-side on your machine. You cannot zoom lower than 5% or higher than 100%.
